Ideas to Inspire

TOP TEN IDEAS FOR 2015-16 YEAR!

AUGUST
Move-In to Recruit...
Take the opportunity to lend a helping hand to incoming freshmen and their folks by standing outside dorms on move-in day offering bottled water or your own "brawn" to get items up stairs and set up. Do this while wearing a shirt advertising SAO Christian Sorority and your chapter's recruitment and contact info on the back. Great way to serve AND advertise!

TIP: Don't have enough money as a chapter to order shirts? Order at our Teespring campaign by July 20th!

SEPTEMBER
Let the walk do the talk...
Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month is September. Our chapters participate in events taking place once per week and one monthly to spread awareness for this disease and its symptoms to their campuses and communities. One fun way our sisters can advertise OCA is by wearing it on their feet! Teal Toes, a non-profit OCA group, asks women to paint their toe nails teal in an effort to start awareness conversations and hand out symptom and detection info cards. Likewise, t-shirts, teal headbands, and shoes can start a conversation, especially the more wacky teal they are!

TIP: Five Below sells "skippies" that you can decorate with sharpies and glitter paint to advertise OCA. This is a great craft social AND philanthropy event for your chapter or at home for non-sisters who want to help in the cause!

OCTOBER
Who you gonna call?
What's not to love about Halloween (btw--check out info on "All Hallows Eve" as a Christian holiday...) Pumpkins? Costumes? Take this opportunity to offer a safe, fun opportunity for your campus and community. Assist in a local mall's indoor trick-or-treat event or host a free, on-campus, costume-themed party.

TIP: Reserve a smaller room to make events feel more "full."

NOVEMBER
Prepare for Prayer.
The International Day of Prayer takes place on the first Sunday of November each year. Consider banding together as a chapter or as Christian organizations on-campus to invite others through the embrace of prayer.

TIP: Do a "prayer walk" or claim a free IDOP kit to plan.

DECEMBER
Give back this Christmas.
Restore the meaning of Christmas by worshiping Jesus Christ by giving gifts to others that inspire hope, justice, and love. Consider finding gifts for family and friends that are eco-friendly, fair-trade, or promote a ministry you love.

TIP: Eden Ministries, Pura Vida Bracelets, Ten Thousand Villages, and Voice of the Martyrs are places to start in finding a way to shop in good conscience.

JANUARY
Freely talk through free devotions.
Many Christian organizations offer free literature to promote awareness of the world's injustices as well as God's sovereignty. Consider finding an interesting book and have sisters take advantage of the free price as well as gain insight into the world of missions.

TIP: Gospel for Asia, The Voice of the Martyrs, Words of Hope, and the Our Daily Bread App all offer free devotional materials and/or books.

FEBRUARY
Don't reinvent the wheel...
February has our National Service Week every year. Look on your local government's website to see areas where volunteering is needed. You might be surprised at what is available!

TIP: If the website ends in .gov, you're at the official county or city website. Do a quick search of "volunteer" to find opportunities available.

MARCH
Sisters all over the world, join the Love Train
Your chapter is on a roll. You got it on lock, right? 24/7? You never need help or new ideas or new perspectives, right? ;) Make sure that your chapter is participating in national training calls featured on our website and National Calendar.
TIP: Don't see a topic that interests you? Have an idea for a topic? Email: headmentor@sigmaalphaomega.org!

APRIL
Don't be a fool...
April 1st is not only April Fool's Day, it is also our national dues collection for Spring. Make sure that your chapter is financially savvy both personally and collectively by "spending" time honing financial skills (pun intended). It may not always be the most interesting topic, but you sure can learn a lot!

TIP: Have a sister with an accounting or business background? Know of a church treasurer or professional CPA? Have them come speak to your chapter or the campus to prep for "the real world" and beyond, and get training or outreach points when you submit a national point form!

MAY
Bring May flowers...
The weather is probably amazing this time of year. And exams are not. Instead of a full regular meeting, split half into a capture the flag game on-campus or paint your chapter banner together for convention outside. Enjoy God's creation!

TIP: Still need to do business? Have your business meeting outside!

JUNE
CONVENTION IS HERE!
Send as many representatives as you can-- chapters with more convention presence classically are healthier during the following year. This year is at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA! Get fundraising so your chapter can send as many as possible!
