Channel No. 5

A woman who doesn't wear perfume has no future. - Coco Chanel
Channel No. 5. That's right. Channel the number five.

It's a whole hand of fingers. It's half of ten. It's how many new chapters of SAO this Fall.

Congratulations to Alpha Lambda (Radford University), Alpha Mu (Virginia Tech), Alpha Nu (Lindsey Wilson College), Alpha Xi (Campbell University), and Alpha Omicron (Clemson University)!

As each of you work towards laying the foundation, precedence, and legacy for your chapter, remember the words of Coco: "A woman who doesn't wear perfume has no future." Wait...why?

MARK 14:3-9 (NIV):

Jesus was in Bethany. He was at the table in the home of a man named Simon, who had a skin disease. A woman came with a special sealed jar of very expensive perfume. It was made out of pure nard. She broke the jar open and poured the perfume on Jesus’ head.

Some of the people there became angry. They said to one another, “Why waste this perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s pay. The money could have been given to poor people.” So they found fault with the woman.

“Leave her alone,” Jesus said. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. You will always have poor people with you. You can help them any time you want to. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body to prepare me to be buried. What I’m about to tell you is true. What she has done will be told anywhere the good news is preached all over the world. It will be told in memory of her.”

So, yes, remember the words of Coco. And remember the actions of the woman who poured her perfume--what Coco says is the key to a woman's future--all over the Son of God. This woman, who seemed backwards and wasteful, must have known the value of placing her future on Him!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.- Jeremiah 29:11

Dear Lord,
I pray over the new (and veteran) chapters of Sigma Alpha Omega. I pray that you will give them the heart and passion required of the work involved in starting and maintaining a ministry at their campus. I ask you will give them each the clarity and wisdom that the woman with her perfume had as they lay the bricks of their foundation for their chapter sisters to come. I ask that you will make them fruitful and give them a reputation of kindness, gentleness, and a steadfast spirit in relentless pursuit of your Son Jesus Christ--in the good, the bad, and the uncertain.
In His Precious Name,
Amen.
