Giving Thanks
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to get swept up in the big challenges or desires that overshadow the little blessings in our daily lives. Sometimes, we find it hard to be thankf when things don’t go as planned, when life feels overwhelming, or when we face situations that seem too small or insignificant to acknowledge. But God calls us to give thanks in a circumstances—not just when things are going well, but even when the small inconveniences or challenges test our patience and faith.
I’ve been fighting to accept even the smallest things as a victim of Hurricane Helene. My ho in Avery County was destroyed, along with my little, Layla Phillips’ home in Burnsville. Through this devastation, we’ve leaned on each other more than ever. Our small text messages over the past month have been one of the biggest things I’ve been thankful for. Something as simple as a few words exchanged can seem small, but in moments like these, it becomes so much bigger, reminding us of the strength and love that sustain us.
This November, I’m truly thankful for being from Western North Carolina. The devastation has taught me that this is where I want to live, even in the chaos. Even though I’ve been displaced and living in a hotel room in Boone, NC, every morning I wake up and see the sunshine hit the peaks of the hills and mountaintops. It’s such a small moment in the mornings, but it makes me remember that God created everything in all beauty.
While you, my fellow sisters, gather around with your loved ones—no matter what status—I hope a small moment brings you joy and reminds you to continue to be thankful. Just like the verse says, “Give thanks in all circumstances,” because even in huge acts of compassion, love, and perseverance, you too can find thankfulness in those moment Every breath we take, every moment we have, is a gift. The small things that we often overlook—a kind word from a friend, a cool breeze on a hot day, or even the ability to wake up each morning—are blessings that can be easy to forget. God doesn’t promise a life free of hardships, but He does promise His constant presence and grace, which sustains us through every moment, big or small.
Being thankful in the little things means trusting God’s hand in our lives, even when we don’t fully understand His plan. Gratitude opens our hearts to see His goodness in the midst of our struggles. When we choose thankfulness, we acknowledge that God is working, even in the details, and that He is using every situation, no matter how difficult or trivial, to shape mold us into the people He created us to be.
So, when we face those small moments of frustration or disappointment, let’s pause and remember that God is with us. Let’s give thanks not only for the joys but also for the trials that refine us. Every moment, no matter how hard or small, is an opportunity to draw closer Him and recognize His unwavering blessings in our lives.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be thankful in all things, big and small. Remind me that every moment, even the hard ones, is part of Your greater plan for my life. Give me a heart of gratitude and a spirit that seeks to praise You, even when it’s hard to see the blessings. Teach me to trust in Your goodness, knowing that You are always working for my good. Amen.
